There’s something special about Elmer’s. By the looks of the restaurant and the menu, you’d think you just found a local version of Denny’s. But imagine the same concept with friendly, quick service, all fresh ingredients, Coachella hangover cure, where items are made from scratch, then you’d have Elmer’s. Everything on the menu is the best example of its type. If you could imagine an ideal breakfast diner, Elmer’s would be it.
The coffee’s strong and delicious, the hash browns are crispy, the pancakes are fluffy, the chicken sausage is tasty, the fruit is fresh, the benedicts sing. And the German pancake is crazy delicious with nothing other than fresh lemon, powdered sugar, and whipped butter.
It’s a large restaurant, but I’ve never had to wait to get a table. The walls are filled with the awards this place has won, and in between those, there are pictures of the classic Hollywood local celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe. After I tried this place the first time, I was hooked. I’ve been back on each visit at least once.
It’s not pretentious, and it’s not foodie food; it’s just a really fantastic breakfast.
