This vegan restaurant is fairly new in Sobe. We wanted something healthy and different from the normal burger and steaks so we said, why not. Let’s give this place a try and it didn’t disappoint. It’s right across the street from Joe’s Stone Crab parking lot. FYI, Planta’s valet is only $10.
As soon as I got out of my car, 2 lovely ladies were standing on the sidewalk greeted and escorted me to the main door. What a breath of fresh air! The dining room was bright with natural sunlight, modern and airy with clean stone finish table tops and comfy chairs and a hint of natural wood. I turned to my left and there were another loft style dining area and a smaller bar furnished with copper metal stools and bar accessories. I arrived pretty early so I decided to chill at the bar while I waited for a couple of friends.
I ordered the Southern Belle to start (avion blanco tequila, yuzu, lime, ginger liquor, cold-pressed apple, pineapple, lemon & turmeric). It was light, refreshing and not too sweet but don’t let this drink fool you. The tequila crept up…lol. My 2nd cocktail was the Charcoal Bourbon Sour (four roses small batch bourbon, aquafaba, lemon, activated charcoal syrup). This was a well-crafted drink and nicely presented. It was on the strong side too so no complaints here 🙂 Cocktails were $14 each which is reasonable for this quality especially in Sobe.
At last my friends arrived and luckily we were seated in the loft-style dining area. We decided to order a bunch of small plates and couple of pizzas so we can share and try everything.
STEAMED DUMPLINGS (taro root, shiitake mushrooms, sweet corn, hot chili oil) – Soft outside and explosion of flavors inside, like real dumplings.
CAULIFLOWER TOTS w/ truffled almond parmesan – Perfectly crisp. Wish they came in a big bucket…lol
QUESO DIP (black beans, queso, guacamole, pickled vegetables, tortilla chips) – Simply delicious. We could’ve licked the plate.
CHICKPEA FRIES w/ cumin, chili, guasacaca – Least favorite. Liked the presentation but they were a little soggy.
MEAT LOVERS (tomato sauce, farro “sausage”, roasted garlic, cashew mozzarella, mushroom “bacon”) – Cleverly prepped and tasty. The veggies tasted like meat.
FRENCHIE (mushrooms, squash, arugula, cashew mozzarella, almond parmesan, truffle vinaigrette) – Probably our favorite. The ingredients were just so fresh!
MAUI MAKI ROLLS (hearts of palm, spicy mayo, cucumber, avocado) – They were decent but we knew they were just veggies cleverly disguised as fish rolled into the rice.
Overall, the quality of the food was superb and definitely had a pleasant experience. Just the service itself was over the top. From the minute you get out of the car, you are treated like royalty. There’s even a hostess that escorts you to the restroom. I’m not kidding! The bill was also reasonable. We spent around $200 for all the food above including 2 rounds of their well-crafted cocktails. I hope they keep it up as competition in Sobe is tough.
